WXLK-FMPromotions Director & On-Air Personality (Roanoke, VA)

Qualified candidates will have on-air radio experience and ideally some experience in PR, and Marketing, or related field.  Successful candidates will be extremely organized, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and know how to prioritize.  Experience in event marketing is ideal. People skills are key – the position requires constant interaction with programming and sales.

The Promotions Director will interact with clients and listeners and must be able to meet the very different needs of each “customer.”  The Promotions Director will supervise promotion team members and interns.  The Promotions Director reports to the Program Director and Operations Manager and works closely with Sales Management.

Regular Duties Include:

  • Planning and executing “major” radio promotions
  • Writing regular promotional proposals
  • Writing regular promotional recaps
  • Writing copy for the station Web site
  • Creating contest pages for Web site
  • Writing copy for Email blasts
  • Oversight of stations social media platforms
  • Understanding FCC rules and regulations when executing promotions
  • Maintaining accurate and detailed calendars of upcoming appearances, contests, concerts, and events
  • Conducting promotions meetings
  • Obtaining prizes for contests on a consistent basis
  • Planning for station events
  • Attending sales calls
  • Nights and weekends occasionally required

In addition, these skills are expected:   Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and HTML.  Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Publisher, and PowerPoint

Primary Duties Include:

  • Handling Commercial and program production for clients using Lynchburg Studio.
  • Assisting in development of News stories and News reports for air
  • Promotional co-ordination assisting station promotion director(s) and/or sales reps with Lynchburg area promotional appearances by Wheeler stations including delivery of any prizes given away which would be picked up or sent from Lynchburg office
  • Coverage of office assisting any visitors/clients
  • Assist Roanoke office on barter reconciliation/program affidavits
  • Assisting with sound bites and show prep for morning show as assigned
  • News Fill-In for Vacation and sick day relief

We are seeking a person who can excel at new business development and serving existing advertising clients. Candidates must be highly motivated with a strong work ethic, and the utmost in integrity. In addition to the skills and talents to do the job, the successful candidate should contribute to making the company a positive place to work for all staff members.

Candidates should:
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excel at prospecting, new business development and relationship building
• Have the ability to make in-person sales calls
• Do well at selling concepts to advertising decision makers
• Have good computer skills

Sales or Media Sales experience is preferred. Candidates must have: a high school diploma or equivalent, ability to drive, and a driver’s license with a good driving record.
